In many situations, yes. A spa can sit above the deck, be partially recessed or be incorporated more closely into the surrounding decking. The right approach depends on the spa, site conditions, structure and access requirements. Importantly, any required service areas need to remain accessible.

For spa surrounds, we generally recommend a high-quality composite decking product with a P5 slip rating where suitable. Areas around spas are regularly exposed to water, so slip resistance is an important consideration alongside durability, maintenance and appearance.

Not all composite decking is the same. We’ll help you compare products based on their slip rating, surface texture, heat, maintenance requirements, warranty and colour, as well as how each board will work with the design of your spa area.

With extensive experience installing a wide range of composite decking brands and products, we can recommend options based on the space and how it will actually be used — rather than simply choosing a board based on colour alone.

Service access is something we plan before the decking is built — not after. Where possible, we'll meet with you when your spa is being installed so we can understand exactly where the main service access panel will be positioned and factor this into the surrounding deck design.

Depending on the spa and layout, we may incorporate full-width accessible panels into the decking, allowing the required area to be opened for future servicing. In other situations, the best solution may be to finish the decking where the spa's access panel begins, keeping the service area completely unobstructed.

There isn't a single price for spa decking, as the cost can vary considerably depending on the decking brand you select, the size and height of the deck, subframe requirements, site conditions and the overall design. A deck built close to ground level can have very different structural requirements to an elevated spa deck, while steps, multiple levels, cladding and other custom features will also influence the final cost.
