Assessing Your Existing Deck

Every deck renovation in South Coast starts with an honest look at what is underneath the boards. We check the subframe, footings and drainage before recommending a renovation, a partial rebuild or a full replacement.

  • Subframe and footing condition checked on site
  • Drainage and moisture issues identified early
  • Board and fixing condition assessed throughout
  • Structural soundness confirmed before any work begins
  • Honest advice on renovation versus full rebuild
  • A scope of work based on what we find

Board and Surface Renovation

A decking renovation or deck remodel often means replacing worn or damaged boards while keeping a sound structure underneath. This gives your deck a refreshed surface without the cost of a completely new build.

  • Worn or damaged boards replaced individually
  • Composite or timber boards matched to your existing deck
  • Board direction and borders refreshed where needed
  • Fixings and spacing corrected during the renovation
  • A refreshed surface without full reconstruction
  • Colour and finish updated to suit current styles

Sub-Frame and Structural Upgrades

A deck refurbishment sometimes uncovers a subframe that no longer meets the job. We upgrade to aluminium or H4-treated sub-frames where the existing structure needs more than a surface fix.

  • Aluminium sub-frame upgrades for long-term durability
  • H4-treated sub-frames for low-clearance and moisture-prone areas
  • Footings and bearers reinforced where required
  • Structural issues resolved before new boards go down
  • Upgrades matched to ground and site conditions
  • Work staged to suit an existing deck footprint

Finishing and Safety Upgrades

A deck restoration is a good time to update railings, lighting and other details that affect everyday safety and use. These upgrades are planned alongside the renovation rather than treated as a separate job.

  • Balustrades and railings replaced or updated
  • Deck lighting added or upgraded during the renovation
  • Stair and step safety improved where needed
  • Fixings and hardware brought up to current standards
  • Finishes coordinated across boards, railings and structure
  • Details checked before the final walkthrough

Deck Renovations & Upgrades FAQs

How do I know if my deck needs a renovation or a full rebuild?
A deck renovation suits a structure with a sound subframe and solid footings underneath. A full rebuild becomes the better option once rot, movement or structural damage go too deep. We check the subframe first and give honest advice either way.
Composite boards can often be installed over a sound existing subframe during a renovation. The subframe and spacing still need checking to suit the new product’s requirements. We confirm compatibility on site before recommending composite over timber.
Poor drainage and moisture trapped under the boards are common causes of early deck problems. Incorrect spacing or fixings during the original build can also shorten a deck’s lifespan. An honest assessment identifies the cause before any renovation work begins.
Loose railings, uneven boards and worn fixings are checked as part of every renovation assessment. These safety issues are addressed alongside the renovation rather than left for a separate job. Balustrades and railings can be replaced or upgraded during the same visit.
